Wine on Wednesdays

Nearly 2,000 residents live in Fearrington Village, located on a historic farm near Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Neighborhoods include townhomes, condos and houses. Enticing to me are the numerous clubs and activities for residents, as well as the weekly farmers market. One resident who showed us around told us of the “Wine On Wednesdays” gathering in her mothers’ neighborhood.  Enhancing the tranquil setting are Belted Galloway cows grazing contentedly as they watch the passersby.

A handsome Relais & Chateaux property, The Fearrington House Inn and Restaurant, is the highlight of the charming Village Center. McIntyre’s Books,  with its fireplace and upholstered chairs, has hosted hundreds of author talks. There is an informal restaurant, The Granary, as well, and boutiques and a spa. Weddings may be held both in the Inn or outside on its lovely grounds. The Barn accommodates large wedding receptions, rehearsal and anniversary dinners  and an annual Folk Arts Fair.

Beyond the idyllic pastoral setting, are the three large cities making up the Research Triangle, Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, each with a major university and a thriving economy. As well, historic Hillsborough and many other small towns are nearby to explore. Fearrington Village is a solid choice for those researching retirement options.
