Seeing Nature Through My Father’s Eyes

A touching piece written by Isaac Blum, an M.F.A. student at Rutgers, in

Booming, Living Through the Middle Ages From Our Children, October 23, 2012.

A pitifully out of it boomer dad arrives at his son’s bedroom door one Saturday morning. Dressed like a truly nerdy bird watcher, the dad chirpily asks his still sleeping son if he’d like to join him on a nature walk.

Touchingly described, the little vignette of role reversal — son humoring dad — arrives at a happy ending with the cool soon actually enthralled by a stunning avian moment.

Something to consider … the passage of time and precious moments with our adult children. How may we continue to share our lives with them?
