American Modern: Hopper to O’Keeffe
August 17, 2013–January 26, 2014
Artists selected from The Museum of Modern Art’s collection include George Bellows, Stuart Davis, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, Charles Sheeler, Alfred Stieglitz, and Andrew Wyeth, among others. Created between 1915 and 1950, the art “considers the cultural preoccupations of a rapidly changing American society in the first half of the 20th century. Including paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, and sculptures, American Modern brings together some of the Museum’s most celebrated masterworks, contextualizing them across mediums and amid lesser-seen but revelatory works by artists who expressed compelling emotional and visual tendencies of the time.”
The varied works represent portraits, industrial scenes, still-life, urban and rural landscapes early to mid 1900’s. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with someone who also appreciates art.
